BUYBACKS: FINANCIAL SECTOR

Stock buyback growth in the Financials sector has been robust since the end of the global financial crisis, becoming a market leading sector.

Since the end of the global financial crisis, the Financial sector has grown to become one of the leading sectors in share repurchase activity. 

In 2010, Financials accounted for about 5% of buyback expenditures by volume; now the sector comprises 23% of volume, only outpaced by the IT sector. 

Financials also currently has the greatest weighting in the S&P Buyback index, which tracks the companies with the greatest buyback ratios (cash spent on repurchases/market cap.). 

As noted in the June Market Report, new buyback authorizations in the sector continues to be robust indicating future volume growth.
